Helping You Reclaim Peace After Trauma

Have you experienced a traumatic event? Are lingering fear and anxiety affecting your daily life? Do you feel that you no longer have control over your thoughts, feelings, or actions?

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop in individuals who have experienced or witnessed traumatic events, such as natural disasters, violence, serious accidents, or combat. While PTSD is often associated with veterans, it can affect anyone, regardless of age, race, or background. Statistics show that PTSD impacts nearly 4% of the U.S. adult population, with women being twice as likely as men to develop the condition.

Symptoms of PTSD

People with PTSD often experience intense, lasting thoughts and feelings connected to their trauma. They may relive the event through flashbacks or nightmares, struggle with emotions like fear, anger, and sadness, or feel detached from friends, family, and daily life. Common sounds or sudden interactions, like a loud noise or accidental touch, can trigger intense reactions, leading to avoidance of people or places that serve as reminders of the trauma.

How Can Treatment Help?

There are several evidence-based treatments for PTSD, including:

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT): Focuses on reshaping how a person perceives and processes traumatic events. Therapists guide clients through “stuck points,” helping them release thoughts that hinder recovery.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): Uses bilateral sensory input, like guided eye movements, to help the brain process difficult thoughts and memories, reducing the emotional impact.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): A form of talk therapy that explores the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT empowers clients with PTSD to regain control, fostering a renewed sense of hope.
